The Bellbird Conference provides a vibrant space for social service professionals to connect, share knowledge, and ignite their creative passion. On November 22, 2024, at the Distinction Hotel and Conference Centre in Rotorua, we are really excited that we when again be gathering to celebrate the uniqueness of our community, celebrating our kaimahi and exploring ways to make a positive impact.

Authentic Leadership: Guiding the Way

At the centre of this conference lies the theme: “Encourage the Heart, Ignite the Soul.”  This theme draws inspiration from the concept of authentic leadership, best described in the works of experts in the field of leadership, authors James Kouzes and Barry Posner, who show us that, through love, leaders can encourage those around them to be their very best. Authentic leadership is a style characterised by integrity, responsibility, and principled decision-making. Authentic leaders use their inner compasses to guide actions, earning the trust of people around them and creating healthy and dynamic work environments.

A key trait of an authentic leader is Empathy and Compassion: heart-centered leadership involves genuine care for those around us. Authentic leaders listen attentively, offer guidance, and provide support during both triumphs and challenges. The phrase “Encourage the Heart” emphasises cheering and rewarding successes, promoting appreciation of people, and building community spirit. When leaders encourage the heart, they motivate those they work with by helping them find their voice and making them feel like heroes. 🌟 Leadership is not a role that you hold, a job title, it is a behaviour and a way of being.
